Such textiles are commonly found throughout West Africa and most specifically among the Dogon, Mossi, Mende, Bamana, Senufo, Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, Yoruba, and so forth. The indigo resist-dyed cotton cloth is made of several strips sewn together. The background on this textile is in blue indigo. Each strip or section contains abstract designs in dark set against a deep indigo field. This cloth in blue recalls traditional and old styles of textile-making. less
