This textile probably comes from the Dogon or Mossi people of Mali and Burkina Faso. Such textiles are commonly found throughout West Africa and most specifically among the Dogon, Mossi, Mende, Bamana, Senufo, Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, Yoruba, and so forth. The indigo resist-dyed cotton cloth is made of several strips sewn together. The background on this textile is in blue indigo. Each strip or section contains abstract designs in dark set against a deep indigo field. This cloth in blue recalls traditional and old styles of textile-making. See less
