This is an Outstanding Example of a Authentic Antique American Stoneware 2 Gallon Storage Jar. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Beautifully and Artfully Hand Decorated with a Large & Elaborate Cobalt Blue Stylized Flower Sprig Design. It is Embossed with a "2" Denoting its Two Gallon Storage Capacity. It is Also Embossed Signed by the Well Documented Massachusetts Maker "FRENCH & PUFFER - LOWELL MASS". It is in Very Nice All Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. Minor Imperfections Noted (1) Faint Hairline Crack - Right Side - Top Rim Area that Extends Down and Stops at the Top of the Handle --- (2) It has a Chip on the Back Top Rim Area - These Can Best Be Seen in The Last 2 Photographs in My Listing. There is Also a Very Small Chip Above the Embossed Name PUFFER. These Types of Age & Use and Related Imperfections and Much Worse are Actually Normal and Quite Common. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made For Everyday - Utilitarian Use. It does have a Minor Kiln Glaze Imperfection Spot at the Lower Left Base Perimeter That Occurred in the Making - Firing Process. These are Also Quite Common as these Types of Stoneware Items were Produced in Batches with Multiple Other Pieces at at The Same Time in a Large Size Kilns. NOTE That it Also Comes With a Very Nice Old and Original Wood Lid with Knob.
It Measures 11 1/2 inches Tall x 8 3/4 inches Wide - Long.
