The ubiquitous swung vase, popularized by makers such as Viking Art Glass and L. E. Smith Glass Company in the 1960s. This beauty’s iconic shape and fabulous peacock blue color is a definite statement maker! Swung vases were hand-blown, then hand-swung to lengthen and then the opening was hand-tooled and heat polished smooth. The vases were literally swung around to produce the neck, with stunning results. This beauty measures just over 15½” high; pedestal base diameter 3¼”; width taken from the widest point at the ribbed base 3½”; weight 1 lb. 2 oz. The peacock blue color is brilliantly dramatic with shades of varying intensity based on lighting. In excellent age appropriate condition with random miniscule air bubbles that formed when the vase was being blown. There is an indiscernible light haze at the very bottom on the interior that will not be seen unless you turn the vase upside down (see photos, 7, 10 & 11); none of which affect the beauty or utility of the vase. There is no makers mark, simply a faint single digit number on the underside; attributed to L.E. Smith. Swung vases easily lend themselves to being a beautiful objet d'art and making a bold statement in any interior. For a collector of this shape of vase, this beauty should be a must have!
