This antique mirror has been gently cleaned while preserving the aged patina. It is ready to hang.
The simple & austere design blending Art Deco modern lines with Arts & Crafts craftmanship is characteristic of the early British Art Deco style.
Its elegant modernist shape and rich texture with the use of oak wood make it a decorative statement piece. It would complement a range of Interiors such as Art Deco, Traditional, Mid-century, Hollywood Regency, Industrial, Minimalist or Contemporary.
The design is smart & simple: an octagonal frame surrounding a silver mirrored surface. Art Deco references are present in the straight lines, geometric shapes & clean edges.
The solid wooden frame is in polished oak. Signs of quality craftsmanship in the geometric joints & exquisite design of the sculptural frame which combines convex & concave shapes, all carved in solid oak. The octagonal mirror surface is accentuated with the scalloped segments & linear decoration creating great concentric movement. The curves on the backside slightly raise the top portion of the frame from the wall adding depth to the piece. The flat linear external trim emphasizes the octagonal shape.
The quality antique silver mirror surface is original to the piece. It is of great thickness, and has a beveled edge which adds depth & a subtle emerald reflection when viewed from the sides.
On the back there is the original solid wooden backplate. The old paper cover has mostly gone showing the handmade craftmanship. To hang the mirror on the wall there are two screw-rings fitted to the wooden plate with a larger ring securing the metal chain.

BRITISH ART DECO HISTORY
“Art Deco” was a new wave in visual art that first appeared in France shortly after World War I. The style was influenced by ideas and exotic imagery borrowed from Africa and Asia, but also from the Greek Revival style of the 19th Century. Art Deco embraced the new, epitomising optimism & celebration. The new streamline version of Neoclassical forms executed in luxury materials: silver, gold, bronze, marble, rosewood, coromandel, chrome & crystal.
In the 1920`s & 1930`s the Art Deco design movement found a unique expression in British furniture, blending clean lines and glamour with the functionalism and craftsmanship of the Arts and Crafts moveme less
