The Maddox Table Company … more This is a beautiful reproduction two-piece secretary from the Maddox Table Company in Jamestown, New York. The Maddox Table Company was founded in 1898 and was one of the first manufactures to ever hallmark a piece of furniture. In 1919 he sold the company to the Shearman Bros. Lounge Co. but continued to use Maddox brand name. They began the Maddox Colonial Revival line that included a large range of high-quality furniture. Their secretaries were one of the more popular selling items especially between the 1920’s and 1950’s. Our maple secretary, style #1027 features a broken pediment top with removable finial and mullion style glass locking doors. Measuring overall 31” wide by 17”deep closed (29”deep opened) by 80” high. The interior shelves are fixed with a plate groove in each. The base opens up to reveal 3 small drawers, 6 letter slots and a carved cabinet, all with their original knobs. Under the flip top locking desk are four nice sized serpentine front drawers complete with original hardware. In one of the drawers (and included ) is the original connector for the top and base. We would consider the overall condition to be above average, especially if it was used daily as the household desk. Both the top and the base are structurally sound, the drawers all glide nicely and there are no serious flaws. Any small scratches, dings or worn areas are cosmetic only. The most notable beauty mark is on the cabinet door inside the desk from something rubbing. A little TLC could probably touch it up to be unnoticeable. This would be a wonderful addition to any room in your house as it is both decorative and functional.
