About Manufacturers:
Henry Birks & Company was established in Montreal in 1879 as a retail jeweler. . In 1897
Birks bought out Hendery & Leslie, their largest supplier of silverware, and began manufacturing their own products. Birks was by far the largest and most influential silverware manufacturer in Canada during the 20th century.
In 1934, Birks received a Royal Warrant to supply British royalty. Two decades later during a royal tour, the future queen, then Princess Elizabeth, was gifted a gem-laden platinum Birks necklace and famously said: “I have never received a more beautiful gift.” During World War II, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) toured Canada. The Queen was presented with a diamond-set maple leaf brooch made by Birks, and when the war began, she always wore it on her lapel when she visited Canadian servicemen stationed in London.
Ryrie Brothers was a retail jeweler established in Toronto in 1897 by James Ryrie . In 1905 the company became a subsidiary of Birks but continued to sell hollowware and flatware under the name Ryrie until 1914 and Ryrie-Birks until 1924. after which they were amalgamated with Birks. Most of their products were of high quality.
This set of coffee/tea mostly produced during 1905-1924 as their marks made with Ryrie-BIRKS. or Byrie separately( see last two images)
This set with Queen Anne style is very rare in market . The simple Queen Anne style octagonal shape has been a classic English staple for more than three centuries. The teapot has an ebony handle and ebony finial on lid.
