In the foundry field slag identify a solidified foamy mass thrown of that floats on the surface of molten metal often composed mainly by silicates of aluminium and calcium, rock components and metal oxides derived from the melting process. with the support of Fonderia Artistica Versiliese, an art foundry specialised in sculptures, they explored the potential of the scoria in a link between the traditional approach to foundry culture and the spontaneity of metals. Diferent experimental production processes are adopted to look for structures and make slags more resistant. Starting from cataloguing them by typology and morphology the slags are then trimmed, milled in diferent grain sizes and sticked together with wax. A further fire will follow by running through the lost wax casting process to create new and unique objects: functional and material sculptures each containing its inverse, its exact contrary. The result is a casted matter self-supporting surface where slags are stuck in the bronze that acts as a binder and structural element enchasing the spontaneity and the material dialogue. The casted objects in limited edition have linear even brutalist shapes where waste and imperfection become part of the collection. Tables, lamps, vases and mirrors find balance in the combination with elements in steel, crystal and marble to enhance the material hybridization that is the basis of the entire project. The works reveal themselves to the physical interaction: formal rigidity flows into the curiosity of the person who touches, follows and reads the harmonic movement of the surfaces by rediscovering the story behind the product. “We have always been attracted by that foamy mass that emerges from the molten metal like landmass whose nature fascinates and intrigues at the same time”. less
