Lovely hand painted art vase made in Israel by LAPID, and hand painted by Fiby.

The white glaze of the vase is contrasted by stylized textured and drip-glazed decoration. The pattern is part of the splat lava collection and is highly collectable. The vase is formed with a wide opening and recessed neck which accentuates the bulbous form of the vase which in turn provides a broad canvass for the decoration to develop and seemingly slide off the curved sides.
The vase is made of white china clay using the slip cast method and is hand-decorated with hand-applied black glaze with an overall semi-matt and colorless vitreous glaze.
Bottom of the bowl is marked ”LAPID MADE IN ISRAEL - Handpainted by Fiby” and is numbered 181. The 181 vase in the black 'splat lava glaze' is quite uncommon.
Lapid Pottery was located in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Israel and was established in 1944 and continued to produce pottery until 1990. In 1949, the factory changed its original goal of making tiles and sanitary wares - to producing Art Pottery which was inspired by Scandinavian design. The designers were primarily responsible for the forms and shapes, and the head decorator the designs. A group of 7-8 decorators were responsible for hand painting the designs onto the art pottery, making for subtle variations between the same base designs, and each piece unique. The multitude of shapes and decorations makes each piece unique.
