Description: Very useful old large Chinese wooden storage barrel in traditional design with knobbed handles from the late Qing period.
Completely … more Very useful old large Chinese wooden storage barrel in traditional design with knobbed handles from the late Qing period.
Completely hand made using convex staves held together by brass hoops. Columns of Chinese calligraphic characters on the front and back painted in black over a swath of natural finished wood which makes a beautiful contrast against the dark varnished main body. This large storage vessel can be used for so many things from dry flower arrangements to storage of wood, towels magazines - whatever.
No markings other than the Chinese characters, some of which mean 'rich and abundant'.
Mid to late 19th Century.
Condition is very good with minor surface blemishes and minor repairs/replacements.
