Russian lacquer boxes are a unique form of art that originated in the 18th century. This box is made of paper mâché and hand-painted with a detailed moody landscape along a river.
The box is signed by the artist in the lower left-hand corner and is a common style of painting by many Russian artists in the 1970s.
The box measures 6 x 4 inches and opens easily to a red lacquered inside.
The box does have scratches on the bottom from previous use, but the top is free of scratches and is in very good condition. The box opens and closes easily on its original hinges.
