The exact age of this unpretentious petite beauty is unknown. It was handcrafted in the style of the classic Poyner (Dick Poyner 1802-1882) chair with its mule ear stiles and structurally solid mortise and tenon joinery with a bit of timeless Shaker-style influence. I would venture to say that the original seat was woven from cane or oak splint, as the laced cord seat, while nicely done and in good shape, does not look original to the chair. It is handcrafted from solid hardwood with a light tobacco stain and natural wax finish; it may have been painted at one time, as there are a few dots of paint that are mostly indiscernible that have absorbed into the grain of the wood. I purchased this cutie from an estate auction and have used it mostly as a décor prop. It measures 34½” x 17½” x 13¼” H/W/D, seat 16” x 13” W/D; back 18” x 14½” H/W; seat-to-floor height 17”; weight approximately 15 lbs. “Guesstimation” as to when it was possibly made is early 1920s but could be slightly older. Structurally sound with strong joints; nothing rickety about it! The woven seat is strong and comfortable. Small chairs, for me, have always been somewhat of an accessory piece around our home; you can never have too many. A good one fits into any space! Small or large, in and out of doors, you can move it around from room-to-room, space-to-space, to meet the need of the moment, whether it been seating or décor. This petite cutie is looking for a fabulous new home, yours perhaps?
Thanks for looking! less
