Offering a vintage L. Hitchcock Allegheny College Scholar's Armchair in solid dark maple wood. The armchair features a rush seat. The wood is exquisitely decorated with gilt stenciling and ebonised trim accents. The back rail features a shield from Allegheny College. The back panel is painted with a pastoral scene of college. The reverse of the chair is stenciled with :
"Allegheny College" "John H. Ferguson 1943" "L. Hitchcock. Hitchcocks-ville. Conn. Warranted"
The construction of the chair is solid with no weakness to joints. As shown in the photographs, the finish shows wear appropriate with age and usage with minor fiber loss to the rush seat and minor scuffing at the top of the arms and to the reverse of the back panel.
The chair measures 33 1/4" in height, 21 1/4" in width, 19 1/2" in depth with a seat height of 17". less
