About This Piece
Vintage Design
Splendid mirror made by a artisan teacher, following the extraordinary mirrors Louis XIV (1643 - 1715). Made of finely carved wood and overdied with aged effect. Body with quadrangular and lush copete profile at the top. These two parts present the typical elements of Louis XIV mirrors. The main body has a double corridor, the interior with smaller mirrors. In addition, ornaments in the corners and half of each side that enhance its shape. In the upper part, a large copete is developed, which presents in its central area the Cup of Abundance, framed by a multitude of rocks that create a kind of ephemeral architecture. Floral elements distributed throughout the whole and a great fleshy acanthus sheet that crowns it.
It comes from the Roche Bobois collection.
About Louis XIV mirrors
During the reign of Louis XIV was Bernard Perrot (1640-1709), a glass of Orleans, who invented the flat glass that allowed to produce flat glass on a large surface of just over 1 meter. Thanks to this, Colbert will create in 1665 the first French real manufacture of mirrors. It then produces mirrors supported by richly sculpted and golden frames. Original creations of a large number of artisans and personalities were made for the decoration of real and aristocratic residences, the most prestigious design of mirrors, versions, Marly ceremonial rooms, chambord, fontainebleau.
