It is an engraving where his portrait appears, presenting him in three quarters, with flowing hair and his medals on his jacket. Below the oval effigy, his family coat of arms. Luis de Onís (1762 - 1827) was a diplomat who served as a Spanish envoy to the United States from 1809 to 1819. He is remembered for negotiating the cession of Florida to the U.S. in the Adams-Onís Treaty with U.S. Secretary of State John Quincy Adams in 1819. less
