I paint primarily from life, referencing my heritage and found objects as a starting point. I’m drawn to the stories these objects hold and the journey that they undertake, being passed down as heirlooms and then perhaps discarded by a new generation. Central to my still lifes is the table, a symbol of community, a nexus of sharing, and care, highlighting the roles women have traditionally played in nurturing and sustaining communities and families. Beyond the intimate narratives, my paintings utilize floral imagery, textile patterns, and the tradition of quilting, exploring the intricate dance between art and craft, questioning the boundaries and enduring hierarchies that continue to place importance on certain things over others. less
