The iconic “Trava” pendant light is a beauty in its own way. Brought to life by Swedish designer Carl Thore for Granhaga Metallindustri. This wonderful creation was definitely one of the most popular designs that ever came from the hands of Carl Thore. Made in two versions and three different sizes, it was made in a wide range of color variations, every single one with its own mode of expression. This is the model that have the white opaque belt around its waist. It gives the pendant a very soft light when lit. Above and under this belt there are six metal sections, three upwards and three downwards, presenting a cosy and symmetrical shade. The color is dark brown on the outside, well balanced against the white inside, helping the pendant to blend in and spread a comfortable glow with one standard E27 light bulb
Designer label for Carl Thore situated on the inside.
About the designer
Carl Thore was merely the two middle names of Sigurd Lindkvist. Born 1916 in the small town of Åmål, situated on the western bank of the Vänern lake, in the north part of province of Dalsland, Sweden. Lindkvist joined Granhaga Metallindustri in 1961, working as Head of Sales and Lighting Design. He remained at the company for some twenty years until his retirement in the early eighties. The story about Lindkvist using his middle names when designing is said to have originated from a situation when he was presenting his work to a client. The client was curious about who the designer behind the creation were, whereupon Lindkvist answered “Carl Thore” rather than revealing himself as the man behind it all. There and then, the pseudonym Carl Thore was born.
Sigurd Carl Thore Lindkvist passed away 1999. less
