Ma Hongwé reliquary, Gabon. Made of solid brass wire woven over a wooden core. Engraved brass plates on the back. Estimated date: circa 1960. Sold with its metal base.
Kota reliquaries are used for ancestor worship and are often placed on top of baskets containing the bones of the deceased, allowing the community to venerate the dead.
