Lady in Pink by John Allan Dawson. The Lady in Pink is a mystery. Who is the lady in pink? Dawson is a gifted figurative artist who specializes in works of fine art which are personal, perceptive, and psychological in nature. He has exhibited from coast to coast, having had one man exhibitions in both New York and San Francisco, as well as numerous exhibitions in between. Framed. Oil on canvas. Original art. Signed.
The basic facts about John Dawson are that he was born in Joliet, Illinois in 1946; he received his BFA in 1969 from the University of New Mexico and his MFA from Arizona State University in 1974. At age 20 he spent a summer at the University of Hawaii. His parents were in the insurance business and encouraged him to seek work as an art teacher. Thinking he would teach on the college level, he obtained the necessary degrees only to quickly abandon any thought of teaching since he decided the only thing he wanted to do was paint.
His works are in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, El Paso Museum of Art, Phoenix Art Museum, Tucson Museum of Art, Ulrich Museum of Art, Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, and the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, among others. It has also been extensively reviewed in numerous publications, including ArtNews, Artweek, Southwest Art, and Art Voices South. He was selected for the book World Artists 1980-1990, edited by Claude Marks. His work is the focus of a recently published book, John Dawson: Thirty Years.
