This very rare first edition vintage 1992 jean Michel Basquiat Japanese hardcover collector's monograph art book is an incredibly special, unique and unusual book to add to your library collection. The special hardcover art book is published by Art Randon Kyoto Shoin International, printed in Japan in 1992 in a very small unnumbered limited edition. This is a rare opportunity for true Basquiat fans and collector's as this book is long out of print and very scarce to find.
The works collected herein all date from 1981 - 1985 a period of specifically vigorous and concentrated production, even with his short career. It should be noted that almost all plates are of pieces previously unpublished presented here for the first time in 1991 at the time of the production of this book.
Jean Michel Basquiat ( 1960 - 1988 ) was born to 2 Haitian immigrants in Brooklyn New York in 1960. His early creative career was as the street graffiti artist nick named " Samo " in the late 1970's on New York City's Lower East Side. By the early 1980's with the help of his friend Andy Warhol, Basquiat began to make his emotionally charged aesthetically arresting Neo Expressionist paintings. In 1992 The Whitney Museum of American art did a retrospective exhibition of the life works of this great American Contemporary artist and master of social commentary.
His work focused on suggestive dichotomies such as wealth vs poverty, integration vs segregation, and inner vs outer experience of the human condition. He appropriated poetry, drawing, painting, & married text and image with abstraction and figuration. Basquiat's works had strong social commentary and deeper truths about the individual and the power structures of racism, and criticism of colonialism and support for class struggles.
The rare out of print first edition collector's book measures 9 1/4" W X 12 1/4" H X 1/4" D, with 48 pages. It is in brand new condition with very light signs of handling. Its is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
