Malcom (Melvin) Carlton Waite, American (1917-1994)

M. C. Waite was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1917. He spent his early years working as a commercial artist, before undertaking military service during WW2. In 1949 he married fellow New England artist Ruth Iversen.

Ruth and Melvin shared a love of painting and the sea. In 1963, they established a Studio Gallery on Cape Cod, where they both produced & displayed their works for the next 30+ years.

The artist (who generally signed his works M. or M. C. Waite) painted locally until his death in 1994… eventually becoming well known/sought after throughout the region for his dynamic, striking New England seascapes.

Posthumously, his work has been displayed in galleries across the U.S., and added to numerous notable collections. less
