Historically, it was used as a low altar table in homes with 'kang' heaters - raised platforms that provided warmth and acted as the primary living space during winter months - where offerings to ancestors were placed.

This fine piece of craftsmanship exhibits a sophisticated aesthetic, featuring exquisitely carved spandrels on the front and back, with slender decorative carvings along the apron. Three lockable drawers provided a secure space for cherished items or documents. Ascending flanges along the tabletop edges signify its reverential purpose, topped with an elegant scrollwork detail. The antiqued dark finish is visible, with varying levels of wear present on the front and top of the table, indicating its age. less
