Description: A Japanese textile panel with embroidery needlework circa late Meiji period (1900s) presented in a gilt wood frame with silk … more A Japanese textile panel with embroidery needlework circa late Meiji period (1900s) presented in a gilt wood frame with silk mat. The work depicts a lovely arrangement of Japanese chrysanthemum flowers with autumn grasses swaying the wind. Silk threads of white and slight metallic silver and pale gold were used for the embroidery work. Satin, chain and knot stiches were employed. The poetic composition is relatively sparse, creating a nice contrast with the pure black background. The work reflects an aesthetic often seen in free style ink paintings when minimal strokes were used to achieve great ambience.
Matted in a silk border and presented in a wood frame with gold leaf corners. less
