This captivating painting by Austrian artist Josef Edgar Kleinert (1859 Vienna - 1949 ibid.) skillfully captures a moment frozen in time as a young woman expertly strips a goose in the cozy confines of an interior setting.
Josef Edgar Kleinert, a talented painter and graphic artist, hailed from a family of artists, with his father, Josef Kleinert, being a renowned medallist and engraver. Under the guidance of notable mentors such as Wurzinger, Griepenkerl, and L. C. Müller, Kleinert began his artistic journey as a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in 1876. Later, he honed his skills further at the Meisterschule under the tutelage of Eisenmenger in Vienna from 1881 to 1883. Afterward, Kleinert embarked on a 20-year sojourn in Munich, where he undertook various artistic commissions. Upon his return to Vienna, he became a member of the Austrian Artists' Association in 1908, eventually serving as its vice president after 1935. Kleinert's oeuvre encompasses a wide range of oil and watercolor paintings, with themes that include landscapes, interiors, religious motifs, as well as the design of posters and tapestries. However, it was from 1896 onward that he embarked on his magnum opus: creating murals and ceiling paintings for approximately 60 churches and monasteries in Vienna, Styria, Krain, and Hungary.
"Goose Stripping" represents Kleinert's meticulous attention to detail and his ability to breathe life into everyday scenes. The painting invites you to witness a young woman's domestic chore, a glimpse into the past when such activities were part of daily life. The painting captures not only a domestic scene but also the spirit of an era. The artwork is a testament to Kleinert's dedication to preserving the visual narratives of his time, offering a captivating window into the past. This piece has an attribution mark,
