Maher Prairie Sschool stained glass floral hollyhock window, door, 1906. George Washington Mayer door panel with a stylized hollyhock motif from the Morse House, Glencoe, IL, 1905-1906. Wood frames with leaded glass. 82” x 27” x 3”. Rare example of important prairie school architecture ready for display and/or installation. A contemporary of Frank Lloyd Wright, George Washington Maher was a Prairie School architect whose work is known for implementing organic forms to soften the overt geometry of his architecture. Maher would incorporate an indigenous flower as a unifying motif for a particular project. For the Charles Morse House, Maher incorporated a hollyhock design in the windows as a unifying motif.
