This is an exceptional pair of 19th century Qing Dynasty table or desk lamps! They are cast-bronze -- a teal blue-green color with black undertones apparent along the edges of the bas-relief carvings. The black lamp bases are traditional carved Chinese wood. The square shaped grass-cloth shades, trimmed in a coordinating green velvet, are in unusually perfect condition, and date to the 1960s.
The lamp harps are built into the lamps and are representative of late Qing Dynasty pieces, once 'electrified' lamps were produced. So as lamps, these date to the very early 20th century, before 1912 when the Qing Dynasty fell. The bronze vessels themselves are thought to be earlier Qing. Both lamps are freshly rewired and ready to go!
The great Qing Dynasty, also known as the last and largest imperial dynasty of China (spanning from 1636-1912), saw many cultural and artistic achievements over the centuries, from bronze art to porcelain and lacquerware. These lamps are sure to be statement pieces in a variety of interior settings.
Additional Dimensions:
The lamps are 30" tall from base to the Harp, 17" tall to the neck, and 14" tall to the shoulders.
The shades are 15" x 15" at the base, 13" x 13" at the top, and 17" tall.
