In Sledge on the Horizon, Sam Gulliver utilizes AI technology to create a cyanotype image of the first moment readers encounter the Creature. Vague and seen from a great distance, the image is reminiscent of the growing presence of AI technology in our lives. The bright cyan blue is perfectly evocative of the arctic landscape, yet that too is slightly eerie, creating a sensation of foreboding within the viewer. The vast landscape and patterns within the sky reflect the sublime power of nature, another critical theme throughout the novel.
