EXCELLENT CONDITION........NO FLAWS....JUST PERFECT.
This particular jar has an URN/POT style shape, which is a little different than a traditional ginger jar. In Chinese antiquity it is called a "Lid Pot" jar and was used for storage and fermentation of foods. This particular jar was made to look old like an antique and is not intended for food. It is dated on bottom 12-2-1985. Rare Maitland-Smith EXTRA-LARGE Chinese hand-painted porcelain from the era.
The turquoise or light teal colored jar is covered in koi fish with three different colors of orange, lavender and periwinkle blue. There are three borders. One border is on the edge of the lid made of fish scales and pink flowers. There is a floral border at the top of the jar and a very unique border at the base of the jar. The border at the bottom has 5 different motifs including a red shell, old Chinese coins, red fire, an abstract tree, and one with two crossed logs. These 5 motifs repeat themselves around the circumference of the base.
PLEASE SEE THE THREE LABELS STILL ATTACHED ON THE BOTTOM. (two Maitland-Smith labels with date of passing inspection.
