The chest is extremely clean showing natural signs of use such as wear at corners of drawers and case, rubbing below handles Inside the cabinet door, the lower, small drawer does not push far enough back (about 1/16"-3/16" off) for the lock to engage with the strike above. This may be a result of seasonal swelling. This lock is functioning and is behind a door which locks as well. The bottom drawer in the top set of drawers has the most wear at the top right of the drawer face. See photos for details. less

An impressive and highly detailed Kuruma (rolling) Tansu Chest in a variety of exotic wood species. Iron straps protect the corners while elaborate locks protect all drawers and the door at the lower right section. Integrated Iron handles lift through the top for moving the piece. The top three drawers are secured with a lock bar, while the bottom drawer, door, and lower interior drawer inside the door all have their own, unique locks. The upper interior drawer at the lower right can be removed to reveal an additional hidden void. All mechanisms are functioning: simply lift the decorative floral latch to engage the lock. Four original and unique keys are included to unlock the four locking mechanisms. Below each handle is a discreet iron rest to prevent damage from the heavy hardware knocking against the drawer fronts.
The sides and back are all finished allowing this functional work of art to be freestanding if desired.
