'Lily in Charcoal' 2023
From raw energy to sublime. 'Lily in Charcoal' is an expression piece combining an abstract charcoal drawing with a live lily emerging from a gash. The charcoal medium creates contrast and texture, while the abstract style invites imagination. The lily symbolizes purity, renewal, and transcendence, contrasting with the harsh charcoal strokes and suggesting a balance between beauty and challenges. The emergence from a gash represents overcoming struggles or a metaphorical rebirth. The artwork's emotional impact is open to individual interpretation, inviting viewers to reflect on themes of beauty, adversity, and transformation.
'Lily in charcoal' is finalised with timeless 4x5 large format film using the iconic Linhof camera. Creating focal details of the photograph and depth of light that film photography is famous for.
