Michael Bang (1942-2013) was the son of the first Holmegaard designer Jacob E. Bang. Michael Bang was a designer at Odense Glassworks in the 1960s and 1970s and moved to Holmegaard with his family in the 1980s, where he found a job at Holmegaard Glassworks. Here he was responsible for the design of hand-blown lamps made of opal white glass, the specialty of the glass factory.
Quick-witted, fascinating and entertaining, Michael Bang could captivate a gathering when the glassworks called for a lecture.
Many of its products are now collectibles. Holmegaard's range includes his MB series vases and planters (1981), the Mandarin lamp (1983) and the Mixed Double candy dish (2003).
His Fontaine wine glass series from 1987 with the blown bubble in the rim of the goblet is an example of the most advanced art of glassblowing and is still a popular series for exclusive wine services on the market today. less
