Magnificent game of six chairs, created in the bourgeois style of the first quarter of the nineteenth century prevailing in Germany and Austria (1815-1848) known as Biedermeier. Elegant and sinuous structure, made of blonde mahogany sheet, characterized by decorative elements of great artistic quality. In the intricate decoration they present highlight the palmetas in the backup, as well as in the front skirt that joins the legs, an element still fed by the European Empire style. The game consists of six units, all in good condition for its age and use. They can be acquired separately.
This style characterizes German and Austrian furniture from 1815 (Vienna Congress) until 1848 (beginning of revolutionary movements). Its main characteristics are simplicity and functionality. As origin, "Biedermeier" assumed, for the first time in this territory, a derogatory connotation. The word comes from "Bieder", or "simple" and "Meir", one of the most common German surnames at that time and was the name of a "simple" character in an Eichrodt comedy. This term meant the little conservative bourgeois, worried only about his own family reality. Although derogatory, the term represents exactly the new socio -political situation in which the bourgeois is forced or resigned to abandon the desires of democracy and freedom. The center of life becomes, therefore, in the home, which is no longer characterized by unbridled luxury but by comfort and practicality. As a result, Biedermeier furniture is functional, comfortable and easy to get. The style is an evolution of the empire style towards greater simplification, without ornamental and outdated elements, lighter, linear and curves, lighter colors. less
