An exceptional sculpted Brutalist coffee table by American Craft Movement icon Paul Evans, for Directional. With a vigorously textured and engraved bronze base and a thick 3/4 inch glass top.
This piece is the product of an innovative technique Evans developed to create massive works of interlocking bronze slabs that remained light enough to juxtapose like Jenga blocks. A thick impasto of bronze resin was cold-sprayed onto the carved wood substructure and then intricately hand-sculpted. The result is equal parts functional object and work of art.
Signed “PE” and dated “74”. Paul Evans (1931–1987)
