Rarely seen large pair of Limoges all bisque porcelain Busts depict Louise and Alexandre, the children of famous French architect Alexandre-Theodore Brongnairt. The original sculptures by Jean-Antoine Houdon are of terracotta and were revealed at the Salon of 1777 and currently reside in the Louvre.
These Limoges busts are unusual in that they are placed on matching alabaster pedestals and each has the impressed makers mark unique to the subject. The impression of C. Tharaud Limoges is under Louise’s shoulder while Alexandre also has D Houdon. On the inside of each base, both are stamped

Louise seems quite serene, while Alexandre appears to be a little more mischievous!
