Antique tile and footed stand from 1882 France. This tile was designed by Paul Charnoz. The tile is a truly fascinating piece of ceramic, imagine the history behind it. There is felt on the bottom of the tile. The makers mark is on the bottom of the tile holder. With it being 140 years old you would expect it to be very worn due to how long it was used. There is chipping paint and wear on the tile holder but the tile itself is in amazing condition or an antique. Please refer to pictures for more details. This antique tile was part of the old Grand Rapids City Hall floor which was erected in 1888 and razed in 1969. The tiles were manufactured in France in a village of Paray-Le -Monial, at the meeting of the Saone and Loire rivers in east central France. The Charnoz Tile Company used clay from beds in the area, fired the tiles and their colorful designs in one operation. It weighs 2 1/2 pounds and bears the inscription of the Charnoz company on the reverse side. Now covered with felt. The octagon tile is in a frame that is 8 3/4 inches x 8 3/4 inches and depth of 1 1/2 inches.
