A rare pair of fine Chinese Sang De Boeuf Vases mounted on beautifully designed Brass stands and lidded, with decorative brass rims spotting a pair of polished hour glass shaped neck and a tulip shaped brass finials.
This gorgeous pair is ready to be converted into unique table lamps.
I found these treasures from an estate sale in Potomac, Maryland, just before the pandemic. They stood out among many valuable artifacts at the venue. They are in Excellent condition and they each measure approximately 26 inches in height and weigh about 11 LBS, 11.3 OZS each.
Sang De Boeuf (French) or Ox Blood in the English language, is a, opaque deep red color which was first developed to perfection in the reign of Kang Hsi during the 18th century and was used to great effect especially on monochromatic vases on the finest porcelains of the Imperial reigns that followed. European ceramicists could not produce a stable color to match it until the end of the 19th century. Simple in form but dramatically highlighted by the fine even glazed color these large vases rest on fine old brass bases each and are further complemented by very nice brass finials. Large vases like the ones listed here were always prized objects for the rich as they were costly and difficult to produce. less
