The weathered iron marker, with a charming royal crown decorated by fleurs-de-lys, was used to designate land belonging to national nature reserves or sites of special scientific interest.

The Nature Conservancy was established as a government agency in 1949 under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act. The Act was part of the pioneer environmental efforts and reconstruction of the UK after World War II. In 1973, the name was changed to the Nature Conservancy Council.

The marker measures 10.5"h x 17.75"w x 2.75"d and weighs 24 lbs. It retains some of the original green paint and has patinated beautifully over the years. less
