This Cameroonian Bamileke stool was carved from one piece of wood. A tree is thrown in the river to soften it for carving. Once carving begins and if the piece of wood breaks while it’s being carved, it is rejected as if the continuity of life is broken. The intricate woven patterns represent the earth spider symbol of wisdom.
This early 20th century ceremonial Bamileke stool is in very good original condition.
