Provenance: … more Vintage 1940’s Framed Japanese Silk Embroidery Textile Art, or nihon shishu in Japanese; Temple, Homes, Lake Views and Landscape.
Provenance: My parents were stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines; from 1946 until 1948. These items were obtained during their time there.
Upon their return to the States, Mother had both framed in Augusta, GA. Framer tag is on the reverse of both pieces: Bailie’s, 305 8th St, Augusta, GA. ‘Bailie’s since 1858; Custom Made Frames and Mats; Augusta’s Leading Art Dealer.’ Bailie’s closed in 1992.
You are purchasing a pair of beautifully hand-sewn Japanese scenic silk and metal embroidery landscapes. The ‘backgound’ is a pallet of silver, silk threads. The objects in each piece have a relief 3-D appearance... the temple, homes, trees, shrubs, birds float above the silver. Notice how metal threads are used to highlight both pieces.
Silks in silver, grey, black provide the background with silks of brown, tans and black bring the subject to life.
Both in custom red (mahogany?) wood frames, highlighted in gold. Both pieces are under glass, and one with the temple is artist signed in silk.
