Beautiful handmade pillow with hand embroidered suzani fabric on one side and hand dyed ikat on the other side. Zippered with new feather down insert. Suzanis are, by tradition, from central Asian countries like Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan where most of the good work comes from. Great craftsmanship is passed down from generations. The name comes from the Persian word suzan, which means needle. Suzanis were used for all sorts of things such as but limited to seating coverings, wall coverings, wrappings and prayer mats.
Ikat: Definition, History & Design - Design Pool
Ikat (pronounced: E–cot) is a method used for coloring fabric in patterns by resist dyeing. The pattern is not applied to the surface of a fabric and it isn't woven into the fabric structurally. Instead, parts of the yarns for the warp and/or weft are protected with a resist before dyeing. Ikat making is best made in parts of Indonesia.
