The dial is still bright and visible. The woodwork still retains its color. The skeleton key for the door is still present. There are some signs of normal and wear, such as paint loss to the painting of the ship. The case has a couple of minor scratches. Lower right column base appears to be a replacement (most likely replaced during the 1800s). The ornament around the keyhole on the door has a chipped off piece. The movement was last serviced in 2023. We currently have it running. The bell chime has a nice loud tone. Please note that any type of mechanical clock that is moved or shipped might require adjustments upon arrival, thus time accuracy/running cannot be guaranteed. less

This piece dates to around 1790 and was made by renowned clockmaker, Gardner Parker (1772- 1816) of Westborough, Massachusetts. Parker was a master clocksmith, trained by the great Benjamin Willard.
This clock was made in the traditional Federal style with inlaid wooden detailing, brass ornamentation, and a hand painted dial.
Most notable is the clock's "rocking ship" animated automata feature on the top (of the dial). There is a hand painted ship that rocks back and forth with the seconds.
The clock has an 8 day time/strike movement with visible second hand.
Only several of these rocking ship clocks by Gardner Parker are known to exist today. One of them is on display at Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts.
Chairish sells clocks solely to be intended for display. The mechanical elements are not guaranteed to be in working order by Chairish less
