This Ben Shahn " Love and Joy About Letters " rare vintage 1963 first edition lithograph print Mid Century Modern large hardcover slipcase artist's book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with paperboard slipcase protective sleeve is published by Grossman Publishers Inc. New York. Lithograph printed in Lucerne, Switzerland by Camera Publishers, C.J. Butcher, LTD. The text was arranged by Joseph Blumenthal and set in his Emerson type at The Spiral Press, New York.

Ben Shahn ( 1898 - 1969 ) was a Jewish Lithuanian born American Modernist artist. He is best known for his works of Social Realism, his left-wing political views, and his series of famous lectures. Shahn's desire to create narrative art that focuses on social and political justice have come to exemplify Social Realism and the art of social consciousness.
The artworks have a deep commitment to Humanism. Despite his rise in fame and prestige, Shahn remained committed to his audience and subject matter, he stood amongst the crowd and fought the same fight as they did. The style of Ben Shahn is unrivaled among American artists for its marked individuality and ability to capture the human experience.
This elegant volume is a testament to Ben Shahn's love affair with letters : the beauty of the letter forms, the liberating influence of hand-lettering, and how the incorporation of letters add meaning to his art. The book presents a beautiful selection of the artist' deployment of letters as an expressive devise.
