These petite cuties are late 20th-century decorative reproductions of the larger birdcages that were all the rage in the mid 20th-century. Painstakingly handcrafted in two pieces which fasten together with metal clips, there are two clips per birdcage. The cage portion sits atop a hand carved four-footed pedestal base on ball feet. Petite in structure and delicate in nature, they were not made to be a habitation for birds but strictly for decorative use. The doors are operable, sliding up and down for effect (see photo 2). On the interior, there are three porcelain blue and white vessels fastened to bases; only one birdcage has a perch (see photo 12). Since wood is an organic material, it shrinks with age. Over the years my husband has glued a few of the ball feet on the bases when cracks appeared due to age (see photos 7) in addition to one of the cage splines (see photo 8). None of these repairs affect the structural integrity nor beauty of either birdcage. The domed tops have a double tier carved “crown” leading to a swivel C-brass hook. Each measures 11½” high including the hook; width 6¼”; circumference 20”; together the pair weighs 12 oz. Medium is bamboo and rattan with an amber lacquered finish; brass C-hooks, porcelain china blue and white feeding bowls. Whimsical petite accents to give your space a little bit of a retro boho chic vibe!
