Bertoldo Taubert (1915 – 1974) was born in Leopoli, Italy. When he was a child, he moved with his family to Paris, France and he (eventually) became a French citizen. He likely learned his art skills from his father, who was a portrait painter. As a young adult, he spent time painting in Asia, South America, and the Scandinavian parts of Europe. During World War II, Taubert was an active member of the Resistance, which was a collection of organizations that fought the German occupation of France and those who collaborated with the Germans. He helped over 300 people escape from occupied France. In 1944, he was captured and imprisoned, by the Gestapo/secret police. After his release from prison, when the war ended, he resumed his work as a painter. Taubert was most well-known for his paintings that had religious and/or ceremonial themes. He also often painted landscapes, bouquets of flowers, and beautiful young women (often shown with flowers, musical instruments, or children). His artworks have been the subjects of exhibitions ‘around the world’ and are in museums and private collections ‘around the world’. They are highly collectible. less
