The trunk was originally made for storage of Gold or silver bars and coins for wealthy family before paper money used in China. The trunk is four-sided and in excellent condition from all sides. There are three panels on top of the trunk used for opening. The trunk is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure, which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Original patina and wear. Made from cypress with beautiful natural wood grain, the trunk is very solid has been kept in excellent condition. Circa early of 19th century. (can be used as a large coffee table)
