Rarely seen, this exquisite … more For your consideration we offer a pair of hand painted Asian portrait vases by Maitland-Smith, Ltd. Rarely seen, this exquisite pair of vases are finished in a bright shade of lemon yellow with hand applied gilt trimming, each one features a hand painted portrait that depicts an Asian scholar. Substantial in size and quite heavy, the vases stand approximately 14" in height on a base measuring 5.5" in diameter. They are 9" in width just below the neck (their widest point) with a slightly flared 7" opening. A few areas at the base have become worn over time and an effort was apparently made to conceal the loss of glaze on the bottom. This is not visible when the vases are on display and does not distract from their appearance. There are a few random specks of glaze skipping present since manufacture, as well as a few small flea bite chips, though these are not immediately noticed or distracting. The original Maitland Smith labeling remains fully intact on the base of each. Wear is commensurate for age and history of honest use, so please review the photos as they are a descriptive part of the listing. less
