LEUNE - Auguste Heiligenstein

A wonderful and very rare French art deco lamp made around 1925. A wrought iron base of excellent quality holds a nice colored enameled shade by les Etablissements Leune. The glassware of Leune from the 20s was produced in clear glass by Daum. And it was enameled in the Leune workshop. The large bowls for lighting were signed Leune. The small shades like on this table lamp were never signed.
The lamp is in excellent condition given its age. The forged base has a nice ebony colored patina. The lamp is 31 cm high (12,2 inches) and the shade has a diameter of 12,5 cm (4,92"). The lamp is rewired with new cloth covered twisted cord. I placed an American candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug.
The Leune glass manufactory was founded in 1861 in Epinay near Paris. Between 1904 and 1914 it produced tableware and vases decorated with idyllic landscapes, romantic flowers and such. After the second world war les établissements Leune came to a bloom when in 1922 Auguste Heiligenstein became the technical advisor and head of the design department. Heiligenstein was a renowned specialist in enameling on glass. He left the company in 1926. And it went bancroft after the crisis in 1929.
