The Maralunga sofa was created in 1973 by Vico Magistretti for the Italian firm Cassina. Known for his creations using simple, essential forms and the use of innovative materials for the time, he undertook many partnerships with the new publishers of these years, while following the red thread that he was imposed on the letter . The collaboration with Cassina began in 1959 with the Camarish chair which met with a great success, however, it was nothing compared to that of the maralunga which has become a real icon of Italian design winning the compaso of Oro in 1979. For its creation, the 'Milanese architect and designer had an extreme comfort as the main directive, the story tells that it was Cesare Cassina who during a visit to the workshop gave a punch in the file of a prototype, the breaking. This broken prototype, lit the designer in his idea of offering exceptional comfort to its user. And that would be like that that the design of the maralunga was born. Always published these days, he celebrated his 40th anniversary in 2014 for the occasion Cassina thought back his range in accordance with the Vico Magistretti Foundation with the addition of a new finish on the stretches of the structure or with the 40S model Creation of a removable fabric cover. And last 40 maximum an enlarged version of the original model.
The structure consists of a steel tube chassis associated with elastic straps. The seat is made up of polyurethane foam without CFC with differentiated density and polyester, the whole is covered with a synthetic fur fabric. The folder has two independent headrests and removable by an internal chain system patented by the Italian firm.
