Provenance:
Decorator sourced from Brunschwig & Fils as part of the refurbishment of the Cross Hall and stair during the Clinton White House.
Literature:
In 1990 the Committee for the Preservation of the White House recommended certain renovations and decorating improvements be made to specific areas of the White House. The following refurbishment, estimated at $358,000, was paid for by the White House Endowment Fund with monies raised from private donors. For the curtains and upholstery in the Cross Hall, Brunschwig was commissioned to create two fabrics based on a dilapidated French Empire damask remnant from its archive. According to Paris, Mobilier National, series Empire, a tome about French fabrics, the damask was originally made for the throne room at Tuileries. The remnant had a Napoleonic flavor with its wreaths and stars that worked perfectly for the White House. The resultant two damask fabric designs were woven exclusively for the Clinton White House. less
