the ancient painting is dated 1892 and signed f. Bassot, french portrait and genre painter. 

ferdinand bassot (1843-1900) was born in besançon (doubs) and was a pupil of pils and matout.

he began to participate and exhibit his works at the 'salon des artistes français' from 1870.
